Best Management Practices

Rotate insecticides/fungicide chemical families

Description

Rotate pesticide families to reduce the chance of pesticide resistance.  Invertebrate pests and pathogens can sometimes adapt to chemicals in only a few generations.  Changing the chemical class they are exposed to as often as possible slows their adaptation and preserves the effectiveness of all chemical treatments.  If effective chemical treatments are unavailable look into other methods like thermal therapy and tissue culture techniques (97).
