Best Management Practices
Avoid monocultures by mixing susceptible and hardy plants
Description
Mixing hardy plants with more susceptible plants creates barriers to pathogens (100).[RB1] Provide breaks between block to increase airflow and reduce the likelihood of pathogen dispersal. Avoid monocultures, which encourage colonization of pests and create a source of inoculum for diseases. This can be done in the nursery by alternating plants of different genera or families (72).
