Part 1
A review of  key plant physiological concepts,
so that applied concepts of plant nutrition and fertility management,
which will be taught during the latter half of the course, are clearly understood.

Part 2
Essential plant nutrients will be discussed in detail, emphasizing:
Cycling of the nutrient in the environment (soil, air, water, and plants).
EPA guidelines and state and regional regulations pertaining to that element, if any.
Participants will be taught how to calculate nutrient content of fertilizers used in the industry.
Nutrient disorders of each element will be discussed, emphasizing plant symptoms of deficiencies.
Environmental and cultural practices will be discussed that may cause nutrient disorders or reduce the efficiency of nutrient uptake into plants.

Part 3
Tour and Demonstration of Fertilizer Management Practices to Reduce Nutrient Runoff (Everris/Colorama Nursery)
1:00pm-3:00pm Fertilizer Management (Best Management Practices).  
The appropriate use of specific fertilizer formulations will be discussed,
explaining BMPs of granular fertilizers and liquid fertilizers.  
Irrigation and Water Management, with focus on irrigation systems
and infrastructural considerations to optimize water use and
minimize or eliminate water runoff from nursery production facilities.
